8God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.
9The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham: for the shields of the earth belong unto God: he is greatly exalted.
What a great encouragement to God's people that Psalm 47, penned thousands of years ago is just as true today as it was then. In the Old Testament writings of the prophets we watch the tumultuous changes in world leadership as the people of God, in disobedience to God, are brought under the dominion of the Assyrians and Babylonians. God in His sovereignty then judged both of those nations for their parts in the overthrow of Israel and Judah.
Is it really possible for us to look at the events of today and see God's sovereignty at work among the nations? Is it really true that all nations, whether they serve God or not, are really under the control of God's Almighty hand?
Yes! God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.
If that is true, whose side are we on? As Christians, do we really live as though God reigns, or are we so busy living this life and chasing after our own personal dreams that we hardly take a moment to consider our purpose in this life? Are we here merely for our own pleasure, or do we truly have a God-appointed purpose for our life on this earth?
Is God truly exalted in our lives? By God's grace, let us turn our hearts and our minds wholly to Christ, that our lives are not lived in vain, but rather are spent for the glory of God.
God reigns; let all the earth keep silent!
God Bless You,
