King of Glory

7Lift up your heads, O ye gates; and be ye lift up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
8Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.
9Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in.
10Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory. Selah.

King of Glory

The imagery of this Psalm is lost on us in the 21st century; we do not see the gates of the city closed, and the doors of the castle barred against unwelcome intruders. David looks to heaven and declares, Lift up your heads, O ye gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of glory shall come in. Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory.

Through the eyes of David, we can picture the scene; the battle has been hard, but now the victorious king returns with his triumphant army. The city waits in expectation; everyone stands in readiness, straining their eyes for the first sign of the returning army. Suddenly, the cry is heard, the king is near. Slowly the gates begin to rise and in the distance clouds of dust accompany the thundering of the horses' hooves. Then, suddenly, there he is--the king; the crowd bursts into shouts and cheers of joy, as he passes through the castle gates.

Who is this King of glory? The LORD of hosts, he is the King of glory.

Amazing though it be, that calls comes to every single person on this earth. Lift up your heads and open the gates of your heart that the King of Glory may come in. The LORD of hosts, the King of glory has purchased our entrance into the heavenly kingdom. That is a love we cannot even begin to comprehend.

Nothing we have ever said or done has made us worthy to receive the honor and glory due to His name. By His grace may we lift up our hearts and receive this King of glory, and by His grace, may we live with Him and for Him forever more!
God Bless You,
Linda
