Joy in the Lord

1The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD; and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!
2Thou hast given him his heart's desire, and hast not withholden the request of his lips. Selah.

Joy in the Lord

When is the last time you heard the leader of your country say, "I have joy in the strength of the Lord."? When is the last time the leader of your country had joy in anything? In a day of numerous examples of civil unrest, especially in the Mid East, and financial instability worldwide, today's leaders face unbelievable turmoil and stress.

Did David face civil unrest in his country? Yes! In his early years, David fought to gain control of those still loyal to the house of Saul, and in his later years, his rule was endangered by members of his own family, Yet, in spite of the difficulties he faced, he penned the words,

The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD; and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!

From his youth, David was a man after God's own heart, and as king, he never forgot God, his first love! Becoming king did not turn his heart from the Lord; rather, he understood that all of his victories and successes were given to him by God himself. He was a confident king, but his confidence rested in God and not in himself.

Thou hast given him his heart's desire, and hast not withholden the request of his lips.

Why, in our day of great advancement, do we actually think we have achieved any of our successes apart from the hand of God? Whether we are speaking of worldwide success, national success, or our own personal success, nothing is due to our own expertise or prowess. As a matter of fact, no matter what successful characteristics we may personally possess, even these are gifts from God.

As Christians, we are called to live above the selfish and arrogant attitudes of the world. We know that our strength does not lie in ourselves, but in God, so let us live as though we believe that is true. We are called by God, given a mission by God, and equipped by God with everything we need to fulfill that mission.

Go, today, with joy in the Lord, living the life that God has called you to live that his name may be honored and glorified in all that you do and say!

God Bless You,
Linda
