3When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence.
4For thou hast maintained my right and my cause; thou satest in the throne judging right.
5Thou hast rebuked the heathen, thou hast destroyed the wicked, thou hast put out their name for ever and ever.
6O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end: and thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them.
Presence of God
It is a matter of perspective; David said that God had destroyed the wicked, yet the wicked were still there. Are the wicked gone today? No, they are ever present reaping havoc and destroying the people of God.
It is good for us to step back from the details of our daily lives and look at the bigger picture, just as David is doing in Psalm 9. Man is busy in this life doing good and evil, but every single person will stand before the presence of God. What then? What affect did the evil man have before God? None!
In ways we are unable to understand, God uses even the wicked to bring to pass His perfect plan for all of mankind. He is never thwarted by the acts of man! In Genesis, we see the picture of God using Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt to show His marvelous works on behalf of His people.
This is exactly the point that David is making in Psalm 9:3-6. After praising our marvelous God in Psalm 9:1-2, he continued by stating the reality that the wicked were already defeated.
Is that true in our day as well? Yes! The wicked are busy building and creating a world without God - but what they are attempting is an impossibility. The reality of the presence of God does not depend upon our belief, nor is it affected by our unbelief.
Let us pray for strength and faith to understand that God is continually working on our behalf. As Christians, let us fall before the presence of God, where everything is holy, and just, and pure!
Oh, Lord, come quickly!
God Bless You,
