2 O ye children of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? How long will you love vanity, and seek after leasing?
3 But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.
Psalm 4:2-3, King James Version
As Christians we are set apart to serve the Lord, and yet we often find ourselves entrapped in the muck of this world. What picture does the Psalmist paint? The children of men love vanity, which is a life filled with emptiness or worthlessness. Even more, they seek after leasing (the New King James translates that word as falsehood). That does describe our world today, does it not. Men are caught up in the meaningless world of greed, lying when necessary to accomplish their purpose.
Where does that leave us, as Christians? We face the same temptations, and often find ourselves in the same place. That should not be! The Lord hath set apart him that is godly for himself. We are set apart as children of God, purchased by the blood of Christ. Our lives are not meaningless! Rather, God has a specific plan for each of His children, unique to each one.
How do we find that purpose for our life? We call upon the LORD! The LORD will hear when I call unto him.
What an amazing God we have. He saves us, He keeps us, and He sets us apart that we may live a life of service for Him. Our life has changed from one of meaninglessness to one of fulfillment and joy. Oh, we may not feel that way every day when we wake up, but we know it is true.
Today, let us call upon the Lord and seek His wisdom and guidance that each day might be lived unto His glory alone.
The LORD will hear when I call unto him.
God Bless You,
