Seek and Not Find!

31And many of the people believed on him, and said, When Christ cometh, will he do more miracles than these which this man hath done?
32The Pharisees heard that the people murmured such things concerning him; and the Pharisees and the chief priests sent officers to take him.
33Then said Jesus unto them, Yet a little while am I with you, and then I go unto him that sent me.
34Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come.
35Then said the Jews among themselves, Whither will he go, that we shall not find him? will he go unto the dispersed among the Gentiles, and teach the Gentiles?
36What manner of saying is this that he said, Ye shall seek me, and shall not find me: and where I am, thither ye cannot come?
(
John 7:31-36, King James Version)

Seek and Not Find!

One of the characteristics of Shakespearean plays was the famous soliloquies. I am reminded of that in John 7 when we are given the opportunity to know the thoughts of those are standing around Jesus. Though the Pharisees were adamantly opposed to Jesus, that was not necessarily true of those in the crowd; many of them did believe that Jesus truly was the Christ.

This is what troubled the Pharisees. This man, Jesus, who was not trained in the Jewish schools of theology was changing the world with His teaching. To protect the purity of their religion they could see no other way of handling Jesus except through death.

Jesus was not fooled; He knew of their plotting. Jesus also knew that His time on this earth was short; soon He would be with His Heavenly Father. Then, though the Jews would seek Him, they would not find Him.

Seek and not find! That is a scary thought, is it not. We have a great tendency to take our Christian life for granted, and we have a pretty lax attitude toward the unsaved around us. How concerned are we for our unbelieving family members and friends? As long as they are shrouded in unbelief, they can search for the Lord Jesus Christ, but they will never find Him!

How about you? Do you sit on the sidelines of knowing Christ, but are reticent to take that first step? The Bible tells us that if we seek Jesus we shall find Him. But, the question is, are you seeking the right Jesus? The Pharisees were seeking the man, Jesus, therefore they would seek and not find.

How do you find Jesus? Seek the Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God and Son of Man, to rule your life--your thoughts, your hopes, and your aspirations. Seek the Lord Jesus Christ to guide you in the way you should go. If you seek this Jesus, you will find Him!

What an amazing Lord and Savior!

God Bless You,
Linda
