Answer of Peace

14
Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him quickly out of the dungeon; and he shaved, changed his clothing, and came to Pharaoh. 15 And Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have had a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. But I have heard it said of you that you can understand a dream, to interpret it.”
16 So Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.”
(Genesis 41:14-16, New King James Version)

Answer of Peace

Pharaoh was not at peace! After two disturbing dreams, he could not help but know that the meaning of these dreams was not going to be good. Even worse, he could not find anyone in his kingdom who could interpret the dreams for him. It was then that Pharaoh's cup bearer remembered a dream that he had while in prison.

Now there was a young Hebrew man with us there, a servant of the captain of the guard. And we told him, and he interpreted our dreams for us; to each man he interpreted according to his own dream. (Genesis 41:12, NKJV)

Joseph had been tucked away in this prison for years, probably wondering if God had forgotten him. But that was all going to change.

Pharaoh called for Joseph, saying “I have had a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. But I have heard it said of you that you can understand a dream, to interpret it.”

Joseph could have used this time to promote himself; after all of these years in prison, here was an opportunity to look good in the eyes of none other than Pharaoh himself! But, that is not what Joseph did.

So Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, “It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.”

Joseph acknowledged to Pharaoh that only God could give Pharaoh an answer of peace. We would do well to remember that! We search so many places for peace, joy, and happiness, but none will be found apart from the Lord our God. Pharaoh wisely heeded the advice of Joseph and God blessed him abundantly.

What happened to Joseph? He presented God and not himself as the Source of Peace to Pharaoh; in response Pharaoh made him the second highest in the kingdom!

This same God is our God! He is living and active in the lives of His people today and is the only source of real peace. He alone can grant peace on earth and goodwill to men. Go to Him today!

God Bless You,
Linda
