Put on Christ!

11
And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed. 12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. 13 Let us walk properly, as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. 14 But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
Romans 13:11-14, New King James Version

Put on Christ!

And do this, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep; for now our salvation is nearer than when we first believed.

How long has it been since you first believed? I have been a Christian for 50 years, but I am ashamed to admit that I have not served God faithfully all of those 50 years. Oh yes, I looked quite "saintly" on the outside, but often my heart was so filled with the things of this world that I was of no use for the Lord.

But, oh the grace of God that brings us back into faithfulness to Him. Any good that we have ever done and will ever do for the Lord is by His grace alone! Why does it take so many years to come to grips with the verses shown above?

The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.

May this truly be our wake-up call! The night is far spent, and the day is at hand! But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.

That sounds so easy, does it not? Yet, the spirit is weak and the flesh is strong! Oh that we would grasp the full measure of that verse and cast off all of the cares of this life and spend ourselves wholly for the Lord.

Does that mean we must quit our jobs and gather together on a lonely island so we can devote ourselves to God, alone? No! God has placed us where we are, and exhorts us to serve him in that capacity every day.

Pray today that God would give you the grace to understand and apply these verses to your life this day. By Christ's power alone, put on Christ!

God Bless You,
Linda
