Whose Son is Christ?

While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, 42 saying, “What do you think about the Christ? Whose Son is He?”
They said to Him, The Son of David.”
43 He said to them, “How then does David in the Spirit call Him ‘Lord,’ saying:
44 ‘ The LORD said to my Lord,

“ Sit at My right hand,
Till I make Your enemies Your footstool”’?

45 If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his Son?” 46 And no one was able to answer Him a word, nor from that day on did anyone dare question Him anymore.
Matthew 22:41-46, New King James Version

Whose Son is Christ?

In our Bible passage today we are listening in to a conversation between Christ and the Pharisees. This conversation illustrates a very simple concept. When you begin with a false concept, you will keep running into contradictions. Only the truth exists without contradiction!

As Jesus was approached by the pharisees, He asked them a simple question, "Whose Son is the Christ?". Without thinking, they responded, "The son of David." What were they thinking? Were they thinking that He was asking them about himself? If so, they were expressing their view that He was only a man.

Christ answered them by quoting from Psalm 110:1. The LORD [God] said unto my Lord [David], Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.

Jesus then posed the question, "If David then calls Him ‘Lord,’ how is He his Son?”

The Pharisees walked away sadly, because no one was able to answer the question.

I am constantly amazed at the simplicity of the Bible, and also the great extent that man will go to, to not believe the simple truths of the Gospel. They are willing to make up any story or lie, no matter how ridiculous it may be, just to not believe in the simple truths of God's Word. How sad that is, for, oh what a great salvation they miss!

Ponder this question today, as you go about your various duties. Whose Son is Christ? Your very life depends upon your answer!

God Bless You,
