A Living Hope

3 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, 4 and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you, 5 who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.
1 Peter 1:3-5, New English Standard Version

Years ago, the "God is Dead" movement ran rampant in our country as well as the rest of the world. Today, there are still many who adhere to this point of view, although most unbelievers would say there is no God at all, dead or alive. What about the Lord Jesus Christ? Many would say He was a good man, maybe even a great prophet, but He, too, is dead. Because Jesus Christ is the object of our hope, what would that do to our hope if He is dead. Simply, there would be no grounds for our hope.

Peter, however, declared, In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. The resurrection is the foundation for our hope in Christ; Christ is not dead, but rather is seated at the right hand of God making intercession for His people. He is very much alive!

But, that is not all! Peter continues, And into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time.

Christians have an inheritance that can not perish, spoil or fade away (or taxed into nothingness by any government on this earth). Also, until that time we are ready to receive our inheritance, we are shielded by the power of God! What thing on this earth do you know of that comes with a greater guarantee than this. No one can circumvent God!

Reflect on that as you go about the duties of this day. Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever, is a living Hope who grants His children an inheritance kept waiting for them.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

God Bless You,
Linda
