Repaying God!

December 10: Romans 11-13

33 Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways!

34 “For who has known the mind of the Lord,
or who has been his counselor?”
35 “Or who has given a gift to him
that he might be repaid?”

36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.
Romans 11:33-35, ESV

12:1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

Romans 12:1-2, ESV

Repaying God!

I think everyone should have Romans 11:33 and 34 stamped on the back of their hand! Paul succinctly tells us that no one knows the mind of the Lord and not one of us has ever been His counselor. Gods judgments to us are unsearchable and his ways past finding out, as the King James Version tells us.

Yet, one would think that is not true. It seems that everyone has an opinion as to how they would rule the world if given the chance. If they were God, things would be different! How arrogant and foolish a thought that is; we occupy one little pin prick in the depths of time, and yet we think we could outwit God!

Oh, how He loves His children; from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. Why do we spend so much of our lives on ourselves, when He has given so much for us and to us? What a debt we owe. Should we not start thinking of repaying God?

That was a trick question; there is no way to repay God! Look how Paul follows Romans 11:36 with Romans 12:1-2 (the chapter divisions were not made by Paul, so this thought immediately follows in his thinking).

1 I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. 2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

These two verses should be stamped on the back of our other hand! Pray today that your focus would be God's focus, and that instead of thinking of repaying God, you would present your body to Him as a living sacrifice. Pray that from this time forward you will be transformed by the renewing of your mind. You can not do this in and of yourself, but God can do it for you. Ask Him!

God Bless You,
Linda
