Fight the Good Fight!

December 18: 1 Timothy 1-6

11 But as for you, O man of God, flee these things. Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. 12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. 13 I charge you in the presence of God, who gives life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who in his testimony before Pontius Pilate made the good confession, 14 to keep the commandment unstained and free from reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ, 15 which he will display at the proper time—he who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, 16 who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.
1 Timothy 6:11-16

Fight the Good Fight!

It is clear from the writings of Paul to Timothy that the Christian life is an active life, and a life of warfare. Just as soldiers exercise and train for battle, so, too, must Christians actively pursue a life of Godliness.

Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called and about which you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.

Paul is speaking to Timothy as from one pastor to another, but though we may not be pastors, the charge given here to Timothy certainly applies to all Christians as well. Then, are we left alone in this battle?

As Christians, we are never alone; Christ is with us at all times--how amazing is that! The question we must ask ourselves, however, is do we live each moment of every day as though Christ is standing right beside us? Let us pray that we will actively pursue and fight the good fight on the Lord's side, and not on the enemies' side.

He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion.

Now that is the Master I want to serve!

God Bless You,
Linda
