Wisdom Calls

June 5: Proverbs 7-9

1 Does not wisdom call?
Does not understanding raise her voice?
2 On the heights beside the way,
at the crossroads she takes her stand;
3 beside the gates in front of the town,
at the entrance of the portals she cries aloud:
4 “To you, O men, I call,
and my cry is to the children of man.
5 O simple ones, learn prudence;
O fools, learn sense.
6 Hear, for I will speak noble things,
and from my lips will come what is right,
7 for my mouth will utter truth;
wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
8 All the words of my mouth are righteous;
there is nothing twisted or crooked in them.
9 They are all straight to him who understands,
and right to those who find knowledge.
10 Take my instruction instead of silver,
and knowledge rather than choice gold,
11 for wisdom is better than jewels,
and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.
Proverbs 8:1-11

Wisdom Calls

Is wisdom so obscure that it is hard to find? With such great knowledge in our world today, why do so few seem to possess wisdom? Solomon tells us that wisdom calls!

2 On the heights beside the way,
at the crossroads she takes her stand;
3 beside the gates in front of the town,
at the entrance of the portals she cries aloud
.

If wisdom is so prevalent, why is it so rare to see in our day? Does it not seem to you that people often go out of their way to believe an obvious lie rather than to reach out to the truth that is right before them?

Where did Solomon get his wisdom? Where must we go to receive wisdom? It is certainly not found in any textbook; wisdom comes from God. With so many people rushing away from God, it is no wonder that so many truths have been replaced by outlandish lies. Man would rather believe a lie than to submit to the Lordship of Christ.

Verses 8 and 9 above proclaim:

8 All the words of my mouth are righteous;
there is nothing twisted or crooked in them.
9 They are all straight to him who understands,
and right to those who find knowledge
.

Solomon was not a king who said, "Do as I do and not as I say." Even before he penned these words he had already taken their advice personally when he was visited by God.

10 Take my instruction instead of silver,
and knowledge rather than choice gold,
11 for wisdom is better than jewels,
and all that you may desire cannot compare with her
.

When you are poor and have nothing in the eyes of the world, and then learn the sweet joy, peace, and contentment in God alone, you are beginning to realize that wisdom calls, and its voice is filled with truth and light.

God Bless You,
Linda
