The Earth Totters

May 10: Psalm 50, 53, 60, & 75

1 The Mighty One, God the Lord,
speaks and summons the earth
from the rising of the sun to its setting.

4 He calls to the heavens above
and to the earth, that he may judge his people:
5 “Gather to me my faithful ones,
who made a covenant with me by sacrifice!”
6 The heavens declare his righteousness,
for God himself is judge!
Psalm 50:1 & 4-6

2 God looks down from heaven
on the children of man
to see if there are any who understand,
who seek after God.
3 They have all fallen away;

together they have become corrupt;
there is none who does good,
not even one.
Psalm 53:2-3

2 “At the set time that I appoint
I will judge with equity.
3 When the earth totters, and all its inhabitants,
it is I who keep steady its pillars.

6 For not from the east or from the west
and not from the wilderness comes lifting up,
7 but it is God who executes judgment,
putting down one and lifting up another.
Psalm 75:2-3 & 6-7

The Earth Totters

Though we are totally unaware of it, we live in a precarious state! The Psalms are filled with encouragement to the Christian, but also are very explicit regarding the righteousness and holiness of God which brings about judgment to man.

The Psalms today are a warning to both Christians and non-Christians alike as to the true state of their very existence. Psalm 50 tells us,

The Mighty One, God the Lord,
speaks and summons the earth
from the rising of the sun to its setting
.

Are any excused from this summons? No matter who a person is or what they believe, none will be excused from this summons. God will judge righteously, separating the righteous from the unrighteous; there will be no mistakes in His judgment!

What a sobering reminder to us all to go back to the very basics of who we are and why we are here on this earth. Though we muddy the waters and blur the distinctions, there really are only two classes of people: those who believe and follow God, and those who do not.

Psalm 75 states it this way,

For not from the east or from the west
and not from the wilderness comes lifting up,
but it is God who executes judgment,
putting down one and lifting up another
.

This is a spiritual problem that only has a spiritual answer! There is no place on this earth, not from the east, west, or wilderness, where we can find help for our lost soul. Only in Christ is there true salvation; go to Him, and He will save you now.

As the earth totters, where do you find yourself? Praise God from Whom all blessings flow, that He has provided a Redeemer, Christ the Lord.

God Bless You,
Linda
